Have you ever wondered what English sounded and looked like centuries back? Before Chaucer and Shakespeare, the people of England, like Ælfric and Bede, spoke a Germanic language, the ancestor of Modern English ,which sounded starkly different. Great works like Beowulf were written in this period. After the Norman Invasion of 1066 AD, French vocabulary entered the language and, combined with various sound changes, resulted in modern-day English. In this server we have an active community of learners of the language who help each other learn this interesting yet slightly unheard ancient language.
